An American high school classroom becomes the battleground for a debate on teaching Intelligent Design. Arguing for faith based teaching is Jerome King, author of a new science curriculum that can now be legally taught in the State because the school board has changed the definition of what science is, permitting the method to examine the supernatural as well as the natural. Arguing against the curriculum is Jerome’s estranged half-brother Robert Bell, an editor for a skeptic’s magazine. As the two men brilliantly present their arguments they also must contend with their own personal acrimony. In the end the winner of the debate could influence school systems across the nation. Inspired by a number of court cases and School Board “Science Hearings” taking place across the country now. Inherit The Wind for the 21st Century

During a weekend in Sleepy Hollow, New York, in 1911, Harry Houdini visits his friend Kathleen D’Arcy, who is suffering from tuberculosis and must not be upset, and who has engaged a clairvoyant to contact her dead husband. Houdini must decide whether to challenge the veracity of the clairvoyant and expose him as a fraud, which would put Kathleen’s fragile emotional health, and therefore her life, at risk, or allow her to maintain the fantasy of her husband’s ghostly presence that is keeping her alive. And there is the question of whether or not Houdini possess strange and outré powers of his own, as Kathleen’s daughter Eliza believes, and the skeptical Dr. Jasper Perry does not. Houdini’s wily wife, Bess, proving to be a master magician herself, skillfully navigates matters towards a satisfying conclusion.
